Project 12.1  Maximum Levy

A mathematics coordinator decided to charge each student a $1 levy for entry into the Australian Mathematics Competition.  At this cost, approximately 50 students expressed interest.  The coordinator found that for every 20 cents increase in the levy, two less students will enter the competition.

The coordinator will set the entry fee to maximise the levy received.

3.  Use the table and/or graph to find:

1. the maximum levy collected
2. the number of students who entered the competition 
3. the number of 20¢ levy increases required to get the maximum levy
4. the fee charged per student to obtain the maximum levy.
