Solution:

So, the cost of carpeting the room is $440.

A pebble path 1 m wide is to be laid around a square swimming pool, as shown. The quote to supply and lay the pebble mix is $15 per square metre.

Calculate:
a.  the area of the path
b.  the cost of the path

Note:

The length and width of a rectangle should be expressed in the same units when calculating the area.

A brick path 1 m wide is to be laid around a rectangular flower bed, as shown. The quote to supply and lay the bricks is $16 per square metre.

Calculate:

b.  the cost of the path
